Pulser Compatibility Guide

 

Overview

The CloudBox & CloudLink have 3 terminals used to connect a pulser to the system. The 3 terminals are used for pulser power, pulse input, and ground. The CloudBox and CloudLink share the same terminals but have different labeling:

PWR and 12V+ are the same electrically, just have different labels. The same is true for Pulse and ENC INP. The CloudBox V1.4 also has a level terminal for tank level sensors, but this is currently unused.

As with the difference between the 1.4 CloudBox and the 1.4 CloudLink. The only difference is the labels. PWR is the same as 12V+ DC output. ENC INP / ENC FILL is the same as the pulse input.

 

Terminal Explanation

12V+ (PWR)

The 12V+ terminal is used for pulsers that require a 12VDC power source. Typically these pulses are 3 wire active pulsers.

 

Pulse (ENC INP / ENC FILL)

The pulse input terminal is used to receive the pulses from the metering device. This terminal is required for both active (3 wire) and passive (wire pulsers).

 

GND (DC Ground)

The GND terminal is also required for all pulsers and is the return path for all pulsers, whether it’s an active or passive pulser.

 

Best Practices

  1. Pulser wires should be in separate low voltage conduit than AC and power wires
  2. Pulser wire should be twisted pair
  3. Pulser wire should have a shield / drain that is connected to earth on one end only
  4. Keep pulser wires at a minimum of one inch away from AC / power wires.

PMC

PMC Commander

The PMC Commander can be programmed to work as a mechanical dispenser and therefore work with either the FuelCloud CloudBox or CloudLink. To program the PMC Commander the HHP-1 programmer must be used to set the following settings:

  • 080 Pulse Out Type: 0 (Volume)
  • 081 Volumetric Pulse Out Resolution: 2 (100:1)
  • 200 Operation Mode: 0 (Console Mode)
  • 610 Control Interface Type: 0 (Hardwire)

PMC Fuelhouse

The PMC Fuelhouse can be programmed to work as a mechanical dispenser and therefore work with either the FuelCloud CloudBox or CloudLink. To program the PMC Fuelhouse the following jumpers, switches must be configured:

Troubleshooting

Not Counting Pulses

CloudLink

The V1.4 CloudLink uses fuses for each pulse wiring terminal for a total of 15 fuses. Once the fuses are blown they are not fixable and require an RMA. When testing pulse terminals, make sure that all pulse wires are removed.

GND

To test if the fuses on GND terminals are blown, a continuity test can be performed between each GND terminal and the RS485 GND. If the GND terminal fuses are the only fuses blown, the GND terminal for RS485 can be used as a backup.

12V+

To test the CloudLink’s 12V+ terminal, ensure that the CloudLink has power and run a DC voltage test between the RS485 GND and each 12V+ terminal. The voltage for each 12V+ terminal should be a little over 11 volts DC.

ENC FILL

Similar to the 12V+ terminals, the ENC FILL terminals can also be tested with the RS485 GND terminal. Each terminal should read about 10 volts DC.

CloudBox

The V1.4 CloudBox does not have pulse fuses and generally does not have any issues with pulsers. The easiest way to check if the CloudBox can read pulses is to visually inspect the pulse LED next to pulser wiring terminals. The pulse LED will illuminate whenever there’s a closed circuit on the pulser. 

Pulser

To test if the pulser is outputting a signal, disconnect the pulse wires from CloudBox or CloudLink. Connect one pulse wire to one multimeter probe and the other pulse wire to the other multimeter probe. Set the multimeter to continuity. Put the pump in bypass and pump fuel. If the multimeter does not beep indicating continuity then the pulser:

  1. Does not have power.
  2. Cannot read the mechanic gear of the meter / register
  3. Needs to be replaced.

Note: This only works for contact closure 2 wire pulsers.

 

Testing The CloudBox & CloudLink Pulser terminals

To verify that the pulse terminals on the CloudBox and CloudLink are operational, a tap test can be performed to see if volume is counted in the FuelCloud app.

  1. Disconnect all wires connected to the pulse terminals.
  2. Locate a small piece of wire that is stripped on both ends.
  3. Move the bypass switch of whichever pulse input you want to test to off.
  4. Using the FuelCloud app start the corresponding pump of the pulse terminal you want to test.
  5. Once the pump is on, place one end of the wire into GND and the other end of the wire into Pulse / ENC INP.
  6. Every time the wire is removed the FuelCloud app will report 0.1 gallons if the pulse rate is set to 10:1. This number will vary based on the pulse rate.
